چکیده

The interdependencies between the electroencephalograms of several cortical areas are measured in human adult subjects during different experimental situations by means of methods based on the theory of dynamical systems. Multiple cortical areas are found to be synchronized together while the brain was engaged in higher information processing task. An additional experiment showed that the interhemispheric synchronization between two central derivations significantly increases from awake state to slow wave sleep. The results show that these new approaches succeed in disclosing the distinct connectivity patterns among neuronal assemblies conforming the cortical brain, thus stressing their ability in analyzing the functioning of the brain.

Mental Fatigue and Its Effect on the Performance of the Faculty of Health Staff Using Electroencephalographic Signals

Background and Objective: Mental fatigue usually occurrs as a result of long-term cognitive activities. Mental fatigue could have important effects on the daily lives of healthy people. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to estimate mental fatigue and its impact on staff performance. Materials and Methods: This descriptive analytic study was performed on 10 staff with a mean age of 36±6....

پیش‌گویی برخط و تک‌کاناله وقوع حمله‌های صرعی با ارائه الگوی تولید صرع بر روی سیگنال‌های depth-EEG با استفاده از فیلتر کالمن توسعه‌یافته

Many efforts have been done to predict epileptic seizures so far. It seems that some kind of abnormal synchronization among brain areas is responsible for the seizure generation. This is because the synchronization-based algorithms have been the most important methods so far. However, the huge number of EEG channels, which is the main requirement of these methods, make them very difficult to us...

Mental Fatigue Assessment using recording Brain Signals: Electroencephalography

Background and Objectives: Mental fatigue is a condition triggered by prolonged cognitive activity. Mental fatigue causes brain over-activity. This is a condition where the brain cells become exhausted, hampering person productivity, and overall cognitive function. The aim of this study was to assess students’ mental fatigue using brain indices. Methods: The present descriptive - analytic stud...

Achieving Accurate Automatic Sleep Staging on Manually Pre-processed EEG Data Through Synchronization Feature Extraction and Graph Metrics

Sleep staging, the process of assigning labels to epochs of sleep, depending on the stage of sleep they belong, is an arduous, time consuming and error prone process as the initial recordings are quite often polluted by noise from different sources. To properly analyze such data and extract clinical knowledge, noise components must be removed or alleviated. In this paper a pre-processing and su...

Role of reticular activation in the modulation of intracortical synchronization.

During aroused states of the brain, electroencephalographic activity is characterized by fast, irregular fluctuations of low amplitude, which are thought to reflect desynchronization of neuronal activity. This phenomenon seems at odds with the proposal that synchronization of cortical responses may play an important role in the processing of sensory signals. Here, activation of the mesencephali...
